Under the Shadow

911 – the numbers are significant and have come to represent the Terrorist’s war against us. The increase of Islamic Terrorist attacks upon our citizens has spiked recently and Government bureaucracy is proving it is incompetent or unwilling or both to take the attacks and the threat seriously. As one who travels internationally fairly regularly I certainly take these threats seriously. I’ve already requested extra prayer covering for our up-coming mission trip to Africa. This is not because I am expecting a disaster. On the contrary, I am asking for and expecting God’s covering and protection for everyone who is traveling these days to avert disaster.

Certainly in the most recent “Christmas Day” attack it was through no wisdom of man that disaster was averted. The attack went off remarkably well and the bomb was even ignited, but, by God’s grace, and no work of man’s doing, many lives were spared. I have no doubt that many people have been praying – especially since the horrible events at Ft. Hood in November where the Government showed complete inaptitude in protecting Americans from an Islamic Terrorist although there were many opportunities to do so.

The letter of Paul the Apostle to the Romans states clearly that one of the main roles of Government is to do good to those who do good and punish those who do evil. We must eventually ask ourselves what do we do when governments fail to meet these God-mandated requirements?

In the mean time it is apparent to many that while Governments may be incompetent or inept God is still “in office.” Now more than ever it seems we need to trust in the One who can cover and protect His people despite the ineffectiveness of man’s attempts.

For me, 911 is representative of this through His promised protection in Psalm 91:1

Ps 91:1, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
